Chemtura files suit against new California fire-safety rule

Chemtura has filed a lawsuit in the Superior Court of California at Sacramento seeking to overturn California‚Äôs new fire-safety standard for upholstered furniture. The standard, which requires furniture meet a cigarette ‚Äúsmolder test‚ÄĚ to be considered safe for the public, is weaker than the old standard, Chemtura says. Until recently, California‚Äôs rules also required furniture to meet an open-flame test in addition to the cigarette smolder test.
