Bush Visits DuPont; Promotes Biofuels

President Bush paid a visit to DuPont last week to draw attention to technologies under development that could help the nation reach a goal of reducing gasoline consumption by 20% over the next 10 years. The president discussed that goal last week in his State of the Union address, which included plans to require the use of 35 billion gallons of renewable and alternative fuels by 2017—nearly five times the 2012 mandate set out in the 2005 energy act (CW, Sept. 6/13, 2006, p. 12).
