Braskem Claims World’s First ‘Green’ PE; Plans Commercial-Scale Plant

Braskem says it has successfully produced trial quantities of what it calls the world’s first “green” high-density polyethylene (PE), made from sugar cane-based ethanol. The company will build a green PE plant in Brazil and invest $60 million-$100 million, depending on whether it is built at an existing facility or a greenfield location, says José Carlos Grubisich, Braskem´s CEO.
