Blast kills 37 at Pemex HQ; gas buildup blamed

Investigators have determined a buildup of methane gas in the basement of an annex building caused the blast that killed 37 and wounded more than 100 at the Mexico City headquarters of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) on 31 January around 4:00 pm local time. Officials determined that it was safe for the complex to reopen on 6 February, although two annex areas will remain closed, Pemex says.
