Axiall completes VCM repairs, estimates sharp drop in Q1 Ebitda

Axiall (Atlanta, GA) has restarted a Lake Charles, LA, vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) plant, which had been shut down after a fire on 20 December 2013, the company says. Axiall has also released preliminary first-quarter financial results. Axiall expects the plant to reach full operating rates in May. IHS estimates the plant’s capacity at 522,000 m.t./year. Axiall has just under 1 million m.t./year of VCM capacity at Lake Charles. For the first quarter of 2014, Axiall expects $65–70 million of adjusted Ebitda, down by half year-on-year, from $133...
