Activist hedge funds increase stake in Williams Companies

Two activist New York hedge funds have made new moves to assert influence over the strategic direction of Williams Companies (Tulsa, OK), increasing their stake in the firm and hiring an investment bank. The two shareholders, Corvex Management and Soroban Capital Partners, disclose in a regulatory filing dated 13 February that they have increased their combined beneficial ownership to 8.78% and their total stake to 9.96%—an investment worth about $2.7 billion.
