Praxair calls on Congress to extend helium program

Praxair has called on Congress to extend funding for the Federal Helium Program through fiscal 2014, ending 31 December. Funding for the Federal Helium Reserve (Amarillo, TX), run by the US Bureau of Land Management (BLM), is set to expire 7 October (CW, Aug. 19/26, p.9)—forcing the suspension of operations and restricting market access to 30% of the world’s helium supply, the company says.
