Huntsman beats street on PU, Axiall strong on chlorovinyls

Axiall and Huntsman Corp. both reported fourth-quarter earnings last week. Strong results in chlorovinyls led Axiall to its most profitable fourth quarter “in decades,” according to the company’s president and CEO, while Huntsman exceeded analyst earnings estimates on the strength of its polyurethanes business. Huntsman posted a net loss of $40 million for the fourth quarter compared with net income $105 million in the prior-year period due to the impact of a loss from early repayment of debt and restructuring costs.
