Soul-Searching at Cefic as Europe Loses Its Lead

The declining competitiveness of the European chemical industry was one of the main topics debated at the annual Cefic General Assembly, held recently in Rome. The theme of the meeting was: The Future of the European Chemical Industry—Role and Expectations for 2020 and Beyond. Giorgio Squinzi, CEO at construction chemicals producer Mapei (Milan), was also elected president of Cefic at the meeting (CW, Oct. 4, p. 5).
