Sonatrach Picks Total and Consortium for Petchem JVs

State-owned energy company Sonatrach (Algiers) has selected its foreign joint venture partners for two previously announced world-scale petrochemical projects at Arzew, Algeria (CW, May 31/June 7, 2006, p. 25). The company will link up with Total to build an ethane cracker and ethylene derivatives complex, and with a consortium including Lurgi, Mitsui & Co., and Qurain Petrochemical Industries (Kuwait City) to build a methanol plant. The ethylene complex will cost about $3 billion, Total says. Total will hold 51% of the jv, and Sonatrach will have the rest...
