Solvay and Air Liquide have agreed to create a global fluorine (F2) gas production joint venture to supply the electronics industry. The jv will make F2 onsite for manufacturers of flat-panel display and silicon thin-film photovoltaic products. F2 may be used as a cleaning gas during the manufacture of these electronic products. The new entity will be based in Belgium. Solvay and Air Liquide have not yet announced their respective stakes in the jv. The plan remains subject to antitrust approval.
