Russian Potash Firms Confirm Merger

The boards of Uralkali (Berezniki, Russia) and Silvinit (Solikamsk, Russia) have agreed on the terms of the companies’ long-anticipated merger (CW, Aug. 16/23, 2010, p. 5). Silvinit is Russia’s biggest supplier of potash by sales and production, and Uralkali is the country’s second-biggest supplier. The deal will create the world’s third-biggest producer of potash by capacity, after PotashCorp and Mosaic, with 10.6 million m.t./year, Uralkali says.
