Merck KGaA Acquires Biotest’s Microbiology Monitoring Business

Merck KGaA has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Biotest’s (Dreieich, Germany) worldwide microbiological monitoring activities. The business comprises heipha Dr. Müller (Eppelheim, Germany); the Hycon business, also based at Dreieich; subsidiaries in France, Japan, and the U.S.; and further activities and employees in several European countries. The business has a combined workforce of 290 and it generated 2010 sales of about €50 million ($71 million).
