Leading firms struggle to maintain profits and sales

Leading Europe-based companies posted a mixed set of financial results for the third quarter. Most firms report lower sales, reflecting continued tough economic conditions in Europe and worldwide as well as adverse currency effects, but a number of companies achieved higher earnings.
