European Companies Post Mixed Second-Quarter Results

Leading European companies posted a mixed set of second-quarter financial results (table). Rising energy and raw material costs, as well as negative currency effects, put pressure on many firms, and those that were able to raise prices and preserve margins were the best performers. Most companies confirmed their guidance for full-year profits and sales, but warned that the second half of 2011 will be tougher than in the first half due to stalling global economic growth and continued concerns over sovereign debt.
