Arkema cancels PVDF hike in France after worker protests

Arkema says it has abandoned a €70-million ($90.5 million) project to increase capacity for the company’s Kynar polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) fluoropolymer at Pierre-Bénite—near Lyon, France—following opposition from members of the site’s workforce to a reorganization that would have accompanied the plans. The project, which began development at the beginning of last year, would have raised PVDF capacity at Pierre-Bénite by 50% by 2014 and modernized the site.
