BASF will not proceed in the foreseeable future with a previously announced project to produce nylon intermediates based on a novel C4 technology, CW has learned. The company has completed work on a process to produce adiponitrile from butadiene but it decided against building a plant because a “commercial-scale unit would have been too big for BASF alone,” Willy Hoven-Nievelstein, group v.p./engineering plastics, Europe, tells CW.
