Chemical Week Magazine :: Business & Finance :: Asia/Pacific Wacker to Close Wafer Plant in Hikari, Japan7:53 AM MST | December 16, 2011 | —DEEPTI RAMESH Wacker Chemie says that its Siltronic semiconductor division plans to streamline its 200 mm wafer production capacities and close a production site at Hikari, Japan by mid-2012. Production will be transferred from Hikari to Siltronic’s 200 mm wafer plants at Portland, OR and Singapore. Siltronic produces wafers for the semiconductor industry as well as monocrystalline silicon ingots at the Hikari site, and the site employs about 500 people.
