Sinopec and PetroChina chemical units report losses

The chemical businesses of Sinopec and PetroChina report losses for the first half of 2013. Sinopec’s chemicals loss narrowed, however. Sinopec’s chemicals business reports an operating loss of 409 million renminbi ($67 million) in the first half of this year compared with a loss of Rmb1.25 billion in the first half of 2012. The chemicals segment reports a 5.35% rise in sales in the first half, to Rmb211.5 billion, mainly due to an increase in sales volume, Sinopec says.
