Shell Refinery Fire Cuts Petrochemical Production

Feeling the Heat: Shell’s Bukom refinery. Shell’s refinery at Bukom Island, Singapore remained offstream at CW press time following a fire. The company was nevertheless hoping to avoid halting operations at any of its Singapore petrochemical plants including the Bukom steam cracker, which was running at low rates. The fire broke out at the refinery on September 28 and it was extinguished one day later. Shell was analyzing the causes of the accident and had not announced a restart date for the refinery.
