Penrice to close Australia’s only soda ash plant

Australia’s only producer of soda ash, Penrice Soda Holdings (Adelaide), has announced that it will permanently close its money-losing soda ash manufacturing facility in June 2013, after which it will instead import soda ash. Penrice’s 340,000-m.t./year soda ash facility at Osborne, Australia, which uses the Solvay manufacturing process, will shut down in June with the loss of 60 jobs.
