New South Wales EPA initiates legal proceedings against Orica

The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) of the state of New South Wales (NSW), Australia, says it has commenced a prosecution against Orica (Melbourne) in the NSW Land and Environment Court for an incident in which ammonia gas escaped from Orica’s production site at Kooragang Island, NSW, on 11 March 2013. The court has listed the matter for hearing on 24 April 2014. EPA says that about 1 m.t. of ammonia was discharged from a 60-meter high vent stack at Orica’s ammonia plant at Kooragang Island, near Newcastle, during the incident. EPA says that...
