Chemical Week Magazine :: Business & Finance :: Asia/Pacific Mitsui Plant Fire Kills One, Injures 21; Production Halted7:26 AM MDT | April 27, 2012 | —Deepti Ramesh Mitsui Chemicals says that a fire broke out following an explosion on April 22 at a resorcinol plant at the company’s Iwakuni-Ohtake production complex at Waki, Japan. The blast killed one Mitsui employee and injured 21 people, including 10 local residents, the company says. The fire spread to a cymene plant and utility piping rack at the complex and caused a second explosion in a storage tank at the resorcinol plant. The fire was extinguished by April 23.
