Leading Japanese companies report mixed results

Leading Japan-based chemical companies report mixed financial results for the fiscal first quarter, ended 30 June. Companies including Sumitomo Chemical, Toray Industries, Shin-Etsu Chemical, and Teijin report improved earnings, but firms such as Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings, the parent of Mitsubishi Chemical; Asahi Kasei; Mitsui Chemicals; and Tosoh recorded falls in profits. Ube Industries’ loss widened. Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings says that its net profits decreased by 46.8% in the quarter ended 30 June compared with the year-ago quarter, to ¥5.85...
