Japanese firms report improved earnings

Most of the leading Japanese chemical companies have swung to profit or report higher earnings for the fiscal first quarter ended, 30 June. The depreciation of the Japanese currency and a gradual recovery in the Japanese economy due to the government’s economic policies played a significant role in the improved earnings figures. For the quarter, only Ube Industries swung to a loss, and DIC reports lower earnings. Mitsubishi Chemical reports a net profit of ¥11.01 billion ($112 million) for its fiscal first quarter compared with a net loss of ¥5.57...
