Dow Abandons $100-Million R&D Project in India

Dow India (Mumbai), a Dow Chemical subsidiary, says it has abandoned plans to build a previously announced, $100-million R&D center at Chakan, India following environmental protests. Work on the planned R&D center was halted in September 2008 following orders from the state government of Maharashtra, India. Local villagers had been protesting the Dow facility citing fears that it would pollute nearby rivers. Dow in 2007 announced plans to establish the R&D center.
