(Tokyo) recorded a 93% rise in net profits for the fiscal third quarter ended December 31, 2010 to ¥4.4 billion ($53 million), compared with the year-ago period. Third-quarter sales decreased 2.8%, to ¥194.5 billion. The fall in sales was due mainly to an appreciation of the Japanese currency, DIC says. DIC recorded a 3.1% increase in third-quarter sales excluding the impact of currency fluctuations, as a result of rising demand in the rest of Asia, particularly China, which countered flagging demand for printing inks in Japan.
