Beijing, Shanghai launch carbon-trading markets

Shangai and Beijing have each launched a carbon-trading market, says the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP; Beijing). The Shanghai and Beijing markets started operating on 26 November and 28 November, respectively. There are now three cities in China with carbon-trading platforms. Shenzhen launched a carbon emissions-trading market in June. Almost 490 companies, with combined carbon emissions accounting for 40% of Beijing’s total, have been included in that city’s carbon-trading scheme.
