Accident forces Mitsui Chemicals to exit resorcinol business

Mitsui Chemicals says it decided to not resume production of resorcinol at the company’s Iwakuni-Ohtake production complex at Waki, Japan. Mitsui says that, as a result, it exited the resorcinol business in December 2012. Resorcinol production stopped at the Iwakuni-Ohtake complex following an explosion at the plant in April 2012. The blast killed 1 Mitsui employee and injured 25 people, including 14 local residents.
