Chemical Week Magazine :: Basic Chemicals & Plastics chlor-alkali falls8:42 AM MDT | October 29, 2010 Average U.S. chlor-alkali operating rates fell one percentage point in September compared with the prior month, to 92%, according to the Chlorine Institute (Arlington, VA). Chlorine production fell 3.4% in September compared with August. About 40,937 tons less chlorine gas and 24,679 tons less liquid chlorine were produced, down about 3.9% and 2.8%, respectively. Year-on-year, chlorine production is up about 16.9% in September. Liquid caustic soda production also decreased in September, falling 2.7% from the previous month to 1.06 million tons.
