US methanol expected to firm up through the end of 2014

After four consecutive monthly declines, US methanol contract prices are likely to increase in August, IHS Chemical says. A surge in spot transactions indicates that buyers expect the market to strengthen. IHS Chemical forecasts a 2-cts/gal increase for August with little change through the end of the year. Major US producers lowered July reference prices from June. Methanex posted a July price of 145 cts/gal, down 9% from June’s 160 cts/gal.
