U.S. Ethylene Hits Nine-Month Low as Contracts Fall Again

North American spot ethylene prices hit a nine-month low in July, and are down more than 60% from second-quarter highs. Spot ethylene, which peaked at about 72 cts-74 cts/lb in April, dipped as low as 28 cts/lb in mid-July, about 7 cts/lb lower than June spot averages. Ample supply and declining feedstock costs have pushed selling prices lower since May, market players say. Ethane fell to 46 cts/gal in mid-July, down from an average of 52 cts/gal in June, on continued oversupply and lengthening ethylene supplies. Contract...
