Chemical Week Magazine :: Basic Chemicals & Plastics U.S. Chlor-Alkali Producers Report Lower Rates for April11:19 AM MDT | May 31, 2011 | —LINDSEY BEWLEY U.S. chlor-alkali operating rates in April fell 3-percentage points from March levels, to 89%, according to the Chlorine Institute (Arlington, VA). Total chlorine production decreased about 7.2% in April sequentially compared with March. Production issues at several chlor-alkali producers contributed to lower operating rates. April chlorine gas production was lower by about 71,079 tons, to 971,761 tons, down 6.8% from March.
