Chemical Week Magazine :: Basic Chemicals & Plastics U.S. Butadiene Contracts Plunge, Again9:14 AM MDT | July 6, 2012 | —Lindsey Bewley North American butadiene contracts for the month of July have settled at a 17-cts/lb decrease from June levels, to 90 cts-98 cts/lb, a drop of 15%. The settlement reflects weak demand and full inventories. The 17-cts/lb decline may seem hefty, but it is slight compared with the 40-cts/lb hit that producers took in June, when contracts settled at $1.07-$1.15/lb in a split settlement. Contracts typically settle at the lowest price nominated by the four main U.S. producers—ExxonMobil Chemical, LyondellBasell, Shell Chemical, and TPC Group—but those companies...
