U.S. Alumina Contracts Drop on Improved Supply

Caustic soda prices for the alumina sector have settled at $255/m.t. fob U.S. Gulf for first-half 2007, down $50/m.t from the previous settlement. U.S. producers had sought contract prices of $275-$310/m.t. fob. Asian and Mideast producers are heard to have settled first-half 2007 caustic contracts with alumina producers at $265/m.t. fob, a $10/m.t. increase from the previous settlement, but $15-$25/m.t. below producers’ offers.
