Chemical Week Magazine :: Basic Chemicals & Plastics Solvay Opens Calcium Chloride Plant in Italy8:47 AM MST | November 14, 2007 | Alex Scott Solvay has started up an 80,000 m.t./year calcium chloride (CACl2) plant at Rosignano, Italy. The chemical has a range of applications including uses in the oil, and de-icing chemicals fields. Solvay has agreed to supply 55,000-m.t./year of the production from the plant to CACl2 producer Zirax (London). Financial terms were not disclosed. The production process used in Solvay’s new plant at Rosignano is based on technology owned by Zirax. Zirax already uses the technology at its existing CACl2 facility at Volgograd, Russia.
