Solvay Opens Calcium Chloride Plant in Italy

Solvay has started up an 80,000 m.t./year calcium chloride (CACl2) plant at Rosignano, Italy. The chemical has a range of applications including uses in the oil, and de-icing chemicals fields. Solvay has agreed to supply 55,000-m.t./year of the production from the plant to CACl2 producer Zirax (London). Financial terms were not disclosed.
