Shell Partners with Virent Energy to Develop Hydrogen Fuel

Shell Hydrogen says it has entered into a five-year agreement with Virent Energy Systems (Madison, WI) to develop and commercialize hydrogen production based on Virent’s proprietary technology. Financial details were not disclosed. While the vast majority of hydrogen today is produced from fossil fuels, Virent’s BioForming technology produces hydrogen and other fuels and chemicals from renewable glycerol and sugar-based feedstocks, the companies say.
