Robust Export Demand Anchors Soda Ash Producers

The soda ash market is expected to be healthy this year as global export demand increases, industry players say. “As we begin 2011, global soda ash demand is recovering at a solid pace,” Mark Douglas, v.p. and general manager/industry chemicals at FMC said in a recent conference call for investors. “We expect global demand for soda ash to grow by about 4%-5% in 2011, hitting an all-time high and exceeding 2008 levels of about 48 million m.t.,” Douglas says.
