PVC makers in North America hike production amid rising export demand

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) units in North America operated at high rates during May, lifting production to a level not seen in seven years, according to IHS Chemical’s Market Advisory Service: Global Vinyls published on 17 June. Domestic demand fell about 1% versus April, but export volumes increased 18%. IHS Chemical forecasts an average operating rate of 86.7% in the second quarter and 90.6% in the third quarter, up from 86.2% in the first quarter.
