PET Margins to Bottom Out

Aslug of new capacity is likely to drag down North American polyethylene terephthlate (PET) margins this year, analysts say. An additional 1 million m.t./year of capacity is starting up in the region within the first quarter, and this will pull down operating rates and compress margins, they say. Eastman Chemical’s 350,000-m.t./year plant at Columbia, SC started up late last year, and is now in commercial production, the company says.
