Methanol recedes from recent highs

methanol prices around the world fell sharply in March on improved supply, reversing the run-up of late 2013. The average spot price in Northeast Asia fell from $476/m.t. cif China, east in February to $391/m.t. in March. The average spot price in Southeast Asia fell from $555/m.t. cif Southeast Asia, main ports to $462/m.t. Outages in Southeast Asia tightened supply beginning last September. Brunei Methanol’s 850,000-m.t./year plant at Sungai Liang, Brunei; and Petronas’s 1.7-million m.t./year plant at Labuan Island, Malaysia, were out of service...
