Limited reaction by benzene spot prices to Total Antwerp blast

The recent explosion at Total’s 360,000-bbl/day Antwerp refinery (CW, Nov. 18/25, p. 5) has had limited upward impacts on benzene, toluene, and xylene prices in Europe, IHS Chemical says. The biggest impact has been on spot prices for prompt benzene, according to IHS Chemical. Benzene spot prices for November loading moved from a range of $1,150–1,160/m.t. cif Antwerp/Rotterdam/Amsterdam (ARA) during the first week of November to $1,290–1,310/m.t. cif ARA in the last week of the month.
