Japan Quake Triggers Renewed Interest in Caustic Soda Spot Exports

The global caustic soda market is expected to tighten as a result of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan, players say. Several major facilities located near the affected zone, including caustic plants at Chiba and Kashima, were forced to shut. The related capacity is around 10% of total Japanese capacity and global caustic supply was short by an estimated 100,000 tons/month as a result of the Japanese outages, sources say.
