IHS: Styrene margins to narrow in 2014, but long-term outlook positive

Styrene margins in 2014 are unlikely to reach the high levels attained last year, according The IHS Chemical World Analysis—Styrene 2014. However, the overall trend is positive, and the market will continue to strengthen if producers continue making only modest capacity additions. Last year’s margins were a fluke, IHS Chemical says. Supply tightened in the second half after buyers, enticed by the prospect of low prices, allowed inventories to fall. When prices finally bottomed out, plans to replenish stocks ran up against fall turnarounds...
