Higher raw material costs squeeze styrene margins in Europe

Styrene monomer margins have been squeezed in Europe following the settlement of the February contract price. However, market activity in January and February tends to be seasonally slow, and current fundamentals are within expectations, IHS Chemical says. At CW press time, one styrene contract had been settled for February at €1,427/m.t. del ($1,930), up €17/m.t. However, February’s €61/m.t. increase in benzene’s contract price and €40/m.t. fall in ethylene contract price mean a net increase in raw material costs of €37/m.t...
