Chemical Week Magazine :: Basic Chemicals & Plastics Formosa to Bring Taiwan Cracker Onstream in Second Quarter12:15 PM MDT | July 26, 2007 | Chemical Week Editorial Staff Formosa Plastics is expecting to bring online its 1.2-million m.t./year ethylene plant at Mailiao, Taiwan in the second quarter, a company source says. The cracker has capacity for 600,000 m.t./year of propylene. Startup of the cracker has been delayed twice by shortages of labor and construction material (CW, Nov. 1, 2006, p. 20). The impending startup of the cracker, as well as high inventories in Taiwan, put a brake on demand, and pulled down ethylene spot prices in the region by more than $100/m.t. in a week, to around $950/m.t. c&f, sources say.
