Chemical Week Magazine :: Basic Chemicals & Plastics Fires HIt Formosa’s Taiwan site8:51 AM MDT | August 6, 2010 Formosa Petrochemical says it is restarting two of its three crude distillation units at the company’s Mailiao, Taiwan petrochemical complex after a July 25 fire which shut the 540,000-bpd refinery and some downstream units. This is the second fire at the site in the past month. The company’s 700,000-m.t./year ethylene cracker was shuttered on July 7, after a leak in the distillation tower sparked a fire. That cracker is expected to start up sometime in September or early October, sources say. Two-thirds of the site’s refining capacity could be back online...
