European benzene supply tight despite slow demand

The European benzene supply is expected to remain tight as the use of lighter feedstocks limits the production of benzene coproduct, according to the latest IHS Chemical Market Advisory Service: European Aromatics report. Benzene demand remains steady but is not expected to increase because of planned maintenance turnarounds for key derivatives styrene and phenol. European June benzene prices have been around $1,350/m.t fob Western Europe, according to IHS Chemical data, down from the $1,500/m.t. observed in January.
