The trend reflects year-end destocking, an annual practice driven by tax considerations—but other issues have also played a role, say analysts at IHS Chemical. Ethylene spot prices were on the rise for most of the summer, having bottomed out at 39.5–42 cts/lb del US Gulf Coast during the week ended 15 June.
