Ethylene Yields Healthy Margins Amid Falling Prices

North American ethylene producers have been able to maintain healthy margins this month amid falling contract prices. U.S. ethylene contracts for June recently settled at a decrease of 7.25 cts/lb, to 39 cts/lb, on lower spot ethylene values as well as decreased demand. The deal represents a nearly 16% fall from May contracts. However, spot ethylene prices rose about 3 cts/lb, to about 45 cts/lb, in the third week of July, while spot margins rose about 2 cts/lb, to 28 cts/lb, during the same time.
