Chemical Week Magazine :: Basic Chemicals & Plastics Ethylene Yields Healthy Margins Amid Falling Prices8:12 AM MDT | July 20, 2012 | —Lindsey Bewley North American ethylene producers have been able to maintain healthy margins this month amid falling contract prices. U.S. ethylene contracts for June recently settled at a decrease of 7.25 cts/lb, to 39 cts/lb, on lower spot ethylene values as well as decreased demand. The deal represents a nearly 16% fall from May contracts. However, spot ethylene prices rose about 3 cts/lb, to about 45 cts/lb, in the third week of July, while spot margins rose about 2 cts/lb, to 28 cts/lb, during the same time.
